about

Victoria-born Hip-Hop artist Jesse Day, also known as Daybreak, has recently relocated to Vancouver from Asia where he spent nearly a decade in the entertainment and music industry. His journey back home began with a desire to make a mark in the international Hip-Hop scene and his new single ‘Rap Assassin’ is the culmination of his efforts to record a song that both showcases his skills and pays homage to his love of classic Samurai, Kung Fu and Horror films. Written as an alternative to the current mainstream Hip-Hop environment and as a tribute to the Old-School artists Daybreak grew up listening to, Rap Assassin showcases a beat that features intricate drum patterns and machine-like percussion, all topped off by a piercing synth melody and produced by Daybreak himself, along with DJ A-Slam from accomplished Urban EDM group Global Party Starters.

Lyricism and an intricate flow pattern were the basis for the creation of Rap Assassin. Daybreak explains how he drew on his ability to rap in Korean when it came to crafting his verses, “The way Korean rhymes and flows in general is totally different from English rap. I took some elements from Korean flow patterns and incorporated them into Rap Assassin to change things up.”

Daybreak spent several years in the Korean Hip-Hop scene in Seoul city where he performed alongside Korean Hip-Hop legend and renowned speed-rapper Outsider on the hit TV show Star King and also used his ability to rap in Korean to win third place on the nation-wide televised talent competition, National Singing Contest. Having settled down in Seoul as a musician and actor, it was a desire to pursue a career in Hip-Hop music that led Daybreak back home to Canada where he hopes to emerge as a new talent to watch out for in 2018 and beyond.

lyrics

A god’s flow with tempo
That’ll pound blood out of your temples
The physical, the mental
The spiritual dimension
So welcome to my dojo
Sipping on merlot in slow-mo
Young in my heart with an old soul
A ninja, my mission solo
It’s go time so hide out
Cause trust me you don’t wanna find out
How we slay, we grind out
They line up for my grindhouse
How we play, no time-outs
You come to life or you die out
No replays, just lights out
Got all of y’all in my sights now
Steady, aim, fire, die
Maybe in another life
You could come back, get revenge
And I’ll see you on the other side
Not likely, don’t hold your breath
Just breathe your last and clutch your chest
Just close your eyes, so close to death
Be satisfied you faced the best
I ace the test
As a matter of fact, erase the rest
Not one compares, no one contests
No one would dare, no one is left
I stand alone
With an iron fist, command the throne
We Ironborn with hearts of stone
You find yourself in parts unknown

This is the era of the Rap Assassin
Bodies in my wake, it’s a crime of passion
These are real rhymes, this is not a cash-in
Devastate my foes in amazing fashion
This is the era of the Rap Assassin
Bodies in my wake, it’s a crime of passion
These are real rhymes, this is not a cash-in
Devastate my foes in amazing fashion

It’s just a lonely few who take up the sword
Who wake up with blood pumping through they veins and they pores
Who wake up to hard times but they ready for more
Who wake up to opposition and they ready for war
I am the lone and forsaken
Blade of my kin making gin in the basement
And victory so close, I can taste it
Drunken artistry, so verbose when I’m wasted
Katana swinging to the finish
And when they name the champ, yes it still is
No man can test my limits
It’s my battle cry
Swords swing in savagery
Whack rhymes the malady, end game fatality
A purifier in a sea of the dead
I’ll see your body rest in peace when it’s relieved of your head
And if you think you safe, I see you lost and misled
Because the feast of souls continues till the gods have been fed
This is the era of the Rap Assassin
Bodies in my wake, it’s a crime of passion
These are real rhymes, this is not a cash-in
Devastate my foes in amazing fashion
This is the era of the Rap Assassin
Bodies in my wake, it’s a crime of passion
These are real rhymes, this is not a cash-in
Devastate my foes in amazing fashion
